"What is Gam3B0x?"

Gam3B0x is my own personal video game "Console". Using a standard PC, some front-end software some creativity, I have built Gam3B0x to play everything from Atari's iconic PONG all the way up to, and including, the 8th generation of video games.

As a kid growing up in the 90's, I had a special relationship with our VHS collection. Much like video game cartridges, there was just something enthralling about popping this little plastic device inside a corresponding box and being whisked away to a whole other reality. At some point, I started looking at my game & movie shelf and asking: "Why does my VCR play every movie, but I need 2 separate consoles to play Mario and Sonic?"

Over the years, as I grew, my collection grew with me. My once modest setup of Nintendo and Sega had changed from corner of a bedroom into taking up an entire room. There was an entire wall dedicated to shelving consoles, another purely for cartridges and game discs, as well as a whole slew boxes of CD-R backups for my modded systems. There were drawers containing a bevvy of assorted accessories, cables, and controllers. This all came to a head in early 2014, when I went on a bit of a splurge and came home with an Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Wii U under my arm... and all I could do was stare at the madness and puzzle how I was going to add 3 more devices to this monster I had created.

Using a mixture of emulation, real console hardware, and a powerful PC...
Gam3B0x, is my answer to this problem.

Gam3B0x is my personal 'console'.

It connects to the TV in my living room.
It uses a controller for input.
It plays video games.
This design philosophy has been the driving force behind everything I've done with this system. I simply want to come home, turn on my TV, grab a controller, and play my games.

One controller, to rule them all...
One of the really special things about Gam3B0x is it's love for controllers. There isn't a single controller that won't work with this game system... Except there is no "single" controller to use for every game. Why? Because modern controllers are missing 2 buttons.

A "Full Setup" as I like to call it, would contain no less than the following inputs

D-Pad
Start + Select
ABC + XYZ
Left + Right Sticks
L1/2/3 + R1/2/3
Sadly, this controller doesn't exist... yet.

Say hello to the Retro-Bit Sega Saturn Bluetooth Pro!

Release is fuzzy at the moment, but this little guy may be the first controller ever to give us a full setup... and I'm dying to get my hands on it. Let's hope it drops soon.
